Who we work with

Not Your Average IT Company… Because We Never Wanted to Be.

Blackbird IT exists to help people realise their potential whether that’s a team member pursuing a passion, or a client trying to make sense of a complex digital challenge. Technology is just the tool. What really matters is what it enables.

We started in 2007 with two people and a shared vision: to create an IT company that wasn’t just technically sharp but culturally grounded. One that prized curiosity over ego, and trusted its people to do great work - not because they were told to, but because they cared. That culture remains our greatest strength today.

From T-shirts to Tech Teams

Originally founded as LeetGeek (yes, really), our story began with a love for creative industries and a frustration with the stereotypes surrounding IT. Co-founders Richard and Ben didn’t meet through a pitch deck or structured networking - more like a serendipitous beer and a shared set of values.

They joined forces with a vision to challenge the traditional MSP model - less "ticket and fix", more "understand and guide". From supporting schools with emerging Mac technology to growing into a national, 50+ person team, our journey has always been about helping people and organisations grow.

We’ve had a few name changes, but our purpose has stayed the same: to lift people up and help them manage complexity with confidence.

Why We’re Different

We care about doing things properly – with the right intent, the right people, and the right outcomes. What sets us apart is how we work: collaboratively, creatively, and with a deep respect for the people we work with.

We don’t believe in tech for tech’s sake. We believe in solving the right problem the right way, even if that means pushing back on the easy answer.

We’re not driven by ego or hierarchy. Everyone has a voice here. We don’t favour ideas based on tenure, title, or who talks the loudest.

We value culture as much as credentials. We’re proudly certified as a Great Place to Work®, but more importantly, our team actually feels it day to day.

Our Values

We're a team that gets things done but also gets along. Our values are real, lived, and felt.

Timeline

Key Moments

2007

The business was originally founded in 2007 as 'LeetGeek' by Richard Stafford. Shortly later, Ben Corbett applied for a job, only to end up not just hired, but as a co-owner instead - how's that for a plot twist! Together, they swiftly honed their expertise in providing support for both Mac and PC environments, something that set them apart in their field and propelled their business forward.

2011

Encouraged by Apple, we then moved into the Education sector and began to offer assistance for schools and tertiary institutions in South Australia.

2012

A massive milestone for our then small team, as Blackbird IT was awarded 1st place in the CRN Fast50 National. This award recognised the fastest-growing companies in the Australian IT channel. You can be sure there were celebrations all round!

2016

We recognised the need to embody our company's innovation and modernity more, which led to the decision to undergo a brand and name transformation. Thus, 'Blackbird IT' was born.

2021

With a growing team and expanded services, the moment arrived to transition to a larger office space. The new office boasts a custom comic wall, a pool table, piano, and an outdoor balcony (complete with a BBQ for Friday afternoon wings, naturally!).

2022

Thanks to our amazing team, Blackbird IT was awarded a Certified Great Place to Work! We also high-fived our way to acquiring NSW IT company and team, Autonomous IT.

2024

Through a proud acquisition, we welcomed South Australian managed service provider, Calvert Technologies, and it's team of 11 awesome people to the Blackbird IT family! We’re couldn't be prouder of this milestone to collaborate as one united team.

Looking Ahead

The tech landscape won’t stop changing, and neither will we. We’re continuing to grow our advisory capabilities, expand nationally, and build new ways to support organisations across Australia.
But no matter how big we get, our compass stays the same: people first, always.

FAQs

The Questions & Answers That Lead to Better Decisions

1. What Types of Technology Aid Do Businesses Typically Require?

Most businesses don’t need all the tech, they just need the right tech, set up properly and maintained well. Common needs include:

  • Reliable device and network support (so people can actually get work done)
  • Cloud solutions and file access across teams and locations
  • Cyber security tools that actually protect (not just tick boxes)
  • Backup and disaster recovery (often only valued after something goes wrong)
  • Software licensing, updates, and patch management
  • Strategic advice on scaling technology with business growth

Ultimately, it’s less about the tools and more about making sure your tech doesn’t hold you back, or worse, create risk.

2. How Can a Local IT Provider Enhance My Company’s Efficiency?

A good local IT partner doesn’t just fix issues, they help you avoid them in the first place. Here’s how:

  • Faster response times: When something breaks, you're not waiting in a national queue.
  • Onsite support: Sometimes a hands-on fix is the best fix.
  • Personalised service: Local providers get to know your systems, your people, and your quirks—then tailor solutions accordingly.
  • Accountability: You know who you’re dealing with. No offshore escalations or faceless support tickets.

With fewer distractions and smarter systems, your team gets time back, and that’s where the real efficiency happens.

3. What Are the Benefits of Partnering With a Managed Service Provider?

Think of an MSP as your outsourced IT department, but without the overhead. Benefits include:

  • Predictable costs: No nasty surprises from break-fix models.
  • Proactive maintenance: MSPs monitor systems constantly to stop issues before they snowball.
  • Scalable support: Whether you're onboarding new staff or rolling out a new system, they’ve got the resources.
  • Access to specialists: Not just one IT generalist, but a team covering everything from automation to cyber security.
  • Strategic input: The best MSPs don’t just support; they advise, plan, and help future-proof.

It’s about keeping your tech healthy and aligned with your business, not just keeping the lights on.

4. What IT Advisory Services Should a Firm Consider for Growth?

When growth is on the table, IT needs to be more than functional—it has to be strategic. Key advisory services include:

  • Digital strategy and planning: Align your tech roadmap with business goals.
  • Infrastructure assessments: Are your systems ready to scale or are they barely coping now?
  • Cyber security audits: Growth increases risk. Make sure your defences scale with you.
  • Cloud migration and optimisation: Efficient, secure access from anywhere.
  • Automation and integration: Streamline repetitive tasks and connect your systems for smoother workflows.

Good advisory doesn’t just tell you what’s shiny - it tells you what’s smart.

5. Why Is It Important to Choose a Reliable Technology Partner for Your Organisation?

Technology touches everything in your business from emails and files to how your team collaborates and serves customers. A reliable tech partner means:

  • Less downtime and fewer disruptions
  • Trusted advice, not sales pitches
  • Stronger security, because shortcuts cost more in the long run
  • Consistent support, so your team isn’t stuck waiting or guessing
  • Room to grow, with systems that scale instead of stall

In short: the right partner gives you confidence. The wrong one costs you time, money, and sleep.
